How to Make Your Balloon Display Last!
Let’s be real: nothing sets the scene for a celebration quite like a massive, colourful balloon installation. Whether it’s a kids' birthday bash or a "just because" party for your furry mates at Wiggles and Wags, you want those balloons to stay perky for as long as possible.
Balloons are a bit like toddlers and puppies—they’re pretty sensitive to their environment! If you want to avoid that "flat as a pancake" look the morning after, follow these pro tips to keep your display looking spot-on.
1. Watch the Aussie Sun
Balloons are essentially tiny climate-controlled ecosystems, and they don't handle our heatwaves well.
- The Heat: Causes the air or helium inside to expand. If it gets too hot—especially in a parked car or a sunny backyard—pop goes the party before the cake is even cut.
- The Cold: Causes the gases to contract. Your balloons might look a bit shrivelled if the AC is cranking, but they usually perk back up once they’re back at a normal temperature.
The Fix: Keep your display away from direct sunlight, heaters, or freezing air-con vents. A steady, indoor temperature is the "Goldilocks" zone for your decorations.
2. Mind the "Wild Things" (Kids & Pups!)
We know the little ones and the doggos love a good play, but try to keep the display slightly out of reach of sharp claws or grabby hands until it's officially "playtime."
- For the Pups: Ensure the floor is swept for prickles or debris if you're doing a floor display.
- For the Kids: Remind them that balloons aren't trampolines! Static electricity from kids running around on carpets can also attract dust, which makes balloons look dull faster.
3. Fight the "Cloudy" Look
If you're setting up an arch outdoors, keep it in the shade. Direct UV rays cause balloons to "oxidise," which is when they lose their shine and get a dull, velvety look.
